Other Possible Side Effects of Glucosamine and Chondroitin
The side effects of glucosamine and chondroitin have been found to be mild and non-serious. Because numerous studies have shown this, I feel comfortable taking this supplement.
To be thorough in my reporting, it has been mentioned that there are two possible, but not observed, side effects of glucosamine and chondroitin.
The reason that these side effects have not been observed may have a lot to do with the processing controls and the resulting purity of the formulations used in the major scientific studies.
So, what are these possible side effects?
There is a chance that people with an allergy to seafood could have a problem with glucosamine. This is because glucosamine is derived from chitin which is produced from crustacean shells.
The other theoretical problem comes from the fact that chondroitin is derived from bovine tracheae, which is connective tissue from cows. This raises the possibility of mad cow disease being transmitted.
I get good results from taking glucosamine and chondroitin. My knees are like new, and it is may even be helping my formerly aching back.
At any rate, I am sticking with the premium brand of glucosamine and chondroitin that contains the highly processed and purified formulations used in studies.
