Home decorating ideas for a new look

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 5:37 pm

When it comes to home decorating, not everyone has either the
time or the money to do a whole house makeover.

Room by room home decorating ideas

Whether you live in small metropolitan apartment, a house in the
suburbs, or a log cabin in the mountains, your living room
creates a lasting impression on those who visit. It sets the
mood and should reflect your personal taste. So, to begin our
helpful hints for home decorating ideas, let’s start with some
simple tips for the living room. You don’t have to spend a lot
of time or money to get a new look that will be a pick up for
both you and your living room. Just add some color; here’s how:

1. Paint just One Wall This will really change the focal
point of the living room without getting into a major
redecorating project. If your room has a niche, it’s the perfect
choice for extra color. You can choose a bold, contrasting color
picked from a floral fabric, or a subtle tone darker than the
tone of the other walls. Any change in color will add interest
and splash!

2. Throw a Few Pillows Around Nothing adds color like
strategically placed throw pillows. Choose solids for a floral
print or colorful, patterned pillows for a solid color chair or
sofa. This is just one of many home decorating ideas that will
not only add a bright splash of color, but will also add comfort
to your seating arrangements.

3. Add Green or Flowering Plants If you don’t have a
green thumb, ask your nursery or home center to recommend ones
that require little or no care. If you’re gone from home a lot,
settle for some of the wonderful artificial ones on the market
now. You can find great looking plants, foliage, and flowers
that only need to be dusted. The Internet is a wonderful source
for these.

4. Put Some Color on the Floor A colorful throw rug
placed in front of a chair or under a coffee table can add color
and texture to a living room (or any room). It can be put on top
of any type of flooring, including carpet. If it is on a smooth
surface, make certain to have a no skid backing. Choose a
contrast color (from fabric you’re using in the room}, or look
for one with an interesting pattern that ties into the theme of
your room.

5. Add Interesting Artwork A colorful piece of art placed
in a living room not only adds a decorative touch, but also
introduces colors and shapes. Try framing simple photos with
colorful mats and bright frames.

<6. A Throw Adds both Warmth and Color A handmade quilt,
nubby woven throw, or cozy, colorful blanket adds interest when
draped over the back or arm of a neutral sofa or chair. Choose a
color that accents other pieces in the room, as well.

7. Reflect Color This is one of the home decorating ideas
that appeals to many. Place a large mirror on a bare or boring
wall. Buy an interesting frame or just decorate a piece of
mirror with cording or braid. If you have an old frame, consider
painting it a bright color. The mirror will reflect the color
from around the room and add light to the space.

Tips for the guest room

Not too many people give enough thought to decorating the guest
room in their home, but, if you like to have guests stay over,
here are some simple home decorating ideas for your guest room.
Your budget may not allow you to provide all the amenities of a
five star hotel, but there are certain things you can do to make
your guests comfortable.

1. Buy the Best Bed Your Money Can Buy Don’t give your
guest the oldest, most saggy mattress you have. If you can’t
afford a new bed, think about getting a quality air mattress.
They’re quite comfortable and can be placed on top of a box
spring, over a sofa bed mattress, or on the floor.

2. Clean Bedding a Must Just make sure you have nicely
laundered, clean bedding.

3. A Place to Put a Suitcase Clear a space to put a
luggage rack or a small table or bench to set down a suitcase.
Even a chair is better than nothing!

4. Keep it Uncluttered Get rid of anything that you
would not find in the room of a fine hotel. Keep only the most
useful items in the room, like a clock and calendar. A good
reading lamp would be nice, also.

5. Hanger and Drawer Space If your guest room shares
space with a home office, clear at least a foot or two of pole
space in the closet. Or purchase an inexpensive over-the-door
hook that can accommodate some hanging clothes and clear out one
or two drawers for small items. Both you and your guest will
feel better with odds and ends out of sight.

Going that extra mile…in your used motor

So I went with it, plunged myself into used car ownership - I thought what the heck its a local garage and I trust the guy, the chances are this used car will last the course and wont give me a ton of agro’. I went round with a wad of cash, passing a big sign saying used cars for sale really big reminded me where I was and what I was about to spend 3800 British pounds on. A used Toyota Supra is perhaps a bit of an expenditure, perhaps it is just a bit crazy. But hell look at it, its black manual and has twin turbo’s - what more need I say. In the world of fly cars and mercedes benz it great to see a little lump of lunacy. I had taken like 20 car quiz’s last night to make sure I was really suited to a 200mph japanese import and they all said the right things, It seems to fit - so here we go….My my,….this supra shifts!!!

Christmas Gifts for Him - It’s That Time Again

Filed under: School of Travel @ 8:20 am

With the holidays quickly approaching, it is time to start trying to think of creative gift ideas. If you are looking for Christmas gifts for him, here’s the right approach.

Christmas Gifts - What to Get

As the holidays approach, we are all subjected to a frustrating phenomenon. What the heck should I get for my brother, dad, husband, etc.? We each arrive at the answer differently, but it usually comes in one of the following forms.

1. You see something while browsing a web site or moving with the herds at the mall,

2. You identify a person’s passion and then try to find something related to it, or

3. You buy them a sweater.

I have lots of sweaters. I live in San Diego. A cold day in San Diego is 70 degrees. I do not need more sweaters! Undoubtedly, many men have the same views on this subject. Don’t even mention ties, underwear or socks!

A Better Way

The best method for coming up with gift ideas is to think about what the person likes to do and then find something in that niche. If they like to go fishing, buy them something fishing-related. Yes, another sweater would keep them warm, but I’m willing to bet they already have a pile in the closet threatening to fall like an avalanche from the top shelf.

If you’re looking for Christmas gifts for him, consider his passion. By “him”, I mean husbands, brothers, dads, friends, postman and anyone of the male gender. What is his passion? Try to keep in mind it is not your passion or what you think his passion SHOULD be.

Let’s assume he likes to go fishing on the weekends. His eyes will light up if he opens a present and finds a fishing-related gift. No, a “fishing” sweater doesn’t count. Instead, you should consider things like fishing poles, apparel, hooks or even a chartered tour if you really want to go crazy. At NomadJournals.com, we offer outdoor activity journals for fishing, hiking, camping, traveling and so on to let him keep track of his trips and catches. Regardless, the point is you should give him something related to his passion.

Nearly every man has an outdoor passion whether it is fishing, camping, bird watching, rock climbing or whatever. Get them a gift related to their outdoor passion and you’ll be a successful gift giver. Do so and you’ll even be forgiven for getting them a sweater.

Well, maybe.

“They Should Have Beat Me More” - The Cycle Of Physical Abuse

Filed under: Lifestyle + More @ 5:17 am

In December, 2005, I conducted a two-day workshop with men who
had recently been released from prison for domestic violence.
With the men were their wives, as well as the father of a
batterer who was still in prison.

The father, Douglas, sat in front of me, sharing his childhood
experiences.

“My momma was a very loving woman - a big-hearted, hard working
loving woman,” he told me. From my many years of counseling, I
knew that my definition of love and his definition of love were
likely very different.

“Did she ever beat you?” I asked.

“Oh yeah. She beat me all the time. My daddy beat my momma and
my momma beat me. But she beat me because I was bad. I was
really bad. Maybe if she had beat me more, I wouldn’t have been
so bad.”

“What did she beat you with?”

“Anything she could get her hands on. Extension cords, wooden
spoons. Often I had to go into the yard and pick out the switch.”

“How did you feel when you knew you were going to get a beating?”

“Oh, I was terrified. I’d beg and plead and promise not to do
again whatever it was she was mad at. But that never worked. I
always got the beating. Then after the beating she would tell me
that she loved me, that it was for my own good, and that it hurt
her more than it hurt me.”

“And how were you bad?”

“Well, sometimes I’d come in late, and sometimes I would talk
back. Then I got into alcohol and drugs at a very early age.
Maybe if she had beat me more, I wouldn’t have done the alcohol
and drugs.”

“Why do you think you did the alcohol and drugs?”

“I was just hurtin’ too much. It took me outta all the pain for
awhile.”

“What was the pain?”

“I don’t know. I was just hurtin’ a lot.”

“Do you think it is possible that you were hurting because the
woman who was supposed to protect you was instead hurting you?
That she was confusing you by telling you she loved you while
she was beating and terrifying you? That there was no one to
turn to for safety and nurturing? That you were scared much of
the time for fear of the beatings? That you were terribly lonely
and could not turn to your parents because they were the ones
causing the pain?”

Silence………Then he looked at me in shock. As the light bulb
when on in his mind, the tears started rolling down his
weathered cheeks. Soon he was sobbing.

“That’s right…That’s right….The beatings were the problem.
More beatings would not have helped. And I beat my children
thinking it was the right thing to do, and now my son is in
prison for beating his wife and protective services want to take
away their daughter. And I almost hit her the other day when she
didn’t mind me. I’m so glad I didn’t. This has to stop! This has
to stop!”

I looked around the room. Everyone was in tears. Kathy, the wife
of one of the batterers, spoke up, sobbing.

“I’ve always hit my kids, and no matter what anyone told me
about it not being good, it never made sense to me. This is the
first time I understand why it’s not a good or loving way to
discipline my kids. And I can see why I’m having so many
problems with my older son and why he is on drugs. He has always
been furious with me and I had no idea why. Now I understand. I
need to learn a new way to discipline. I’m going to take a
parenting class and start reading parenting books.”

I hugged Douglas for the profound work he did, and for the
effect his work was having on everyone in the room. I thanked
God for giving me the privilege of working with these people.
All of them, it turned out, had been severely beaten as
children.

I am deeply grateful to James Beard who conducts workshops
within the prison with batterers and to Lindsay Wagner, who also
works with these men and their families. Both of them were
assisting me at this workshop. We all smiled at each other in
deep gratitude for the healing that was taking place.

Beating Writer’s Block

Filed under: Universe Of Publishing @ 4:33 pm

Once upon a time there lived a young girl (well almost young) who decided to write a fiction novel containing the most perfectly poetic prose possibly put to pen. Not that hard, right? Two months later she found herself stumped, for lack of a better word, and unable to leap beyond the frightening realm of…. Chapter Two! What was a young girl to do?

Superman: Enter Stage right.

Ok let’s be honest, Superman didn’t come to my rescue. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the ‘young’ girl was me, and this was the first roadblock, of many, on the journey toward writing my first bestseller. As I sat on my ever-so plump posterior, staring at the demonically defiant computer screen, I was hit smack in the face by what many famous authors call, inspiration.

Helpless victim executes Plan Google (a.k.a search for term “writer’s block”)

My first result sounded something like, “write it and it will come” and truthfully it wasn’t as silly as it sounds.

Writer’s block, also known as Muse Apnea, is the result of over thinking. What’s the cure you ask? Simple. Stop thinking and just start writing. Don’t edit, don’t critique, simply start writing about the first thing which comes to mind. In the end most of what you write will be complete garbage and not worth the paper it’s written on (cliché number one) but at least you’ll have done something brainless and hopefully cleared your mind.

In reality there are a lot of tools and tonnes of information out there, which can cure authors stricken with the deadly, Muse Apnea. It goes something like this:

  • Join a writer’s group - If you have the time, writer’s groups are a fantastic resource for ALL writers. Within the arms of your very own writer’s group you’ll find constructive criticism, motivating words, resource information, and a shoulder or two to lean, or cry on. Really, your spell-checker can only do so much.
  • Make a list of topics/ideas - Attack this problem with your furious fistfuls of ideas. Write down anything that comes to mind. Your favorite lipstick colour, the name of the boy you hated in school, the name of the boy you most want to… meet. I love you Tom! You get the idea. Use these ideas to get those creative juices flowing.
  • Use questions to jumpstart your writing process - How can this possibly work, you ask? Just start asking yourself anything and you’ll soon find out that the sky is the limit. Check it out. Why am I such an idiot? What do idiots like to eat? Why are carrots so yummy? Why do rabbits eat carrots? Are rabbits really cute or are they just rats with big ears and short fuzzy tails? By the way, did I forget to mention that I really am an idiot?
  • Multi-task Don’t become obsessed with one project. Stop it! Just stop it,I say! There are a lot of writers out there who sit down to write the perfect novel and don’t stop until it’s done or they are driven completely insane. Usually insanity sets in before the genius has a chance to be freed. Avoid burn out. Doing this might cause you to quit writing altogether and we wouldn’t want that now would we? What would there be for all the little children to read if J.K. Rowling had given up on the Potter series? Now do yourself a favour and go see a movie.
  • Get some exercise - It’s good for you.
  • Get some sleep- It’s also good for you. It can also revitalize the master plot developer in you, causing a massive surge in creativity and ideas and other good stuff. Yeah, you go girl!
  • Eat - Spiritually inspiring and soulfully good for you. Mmmmm. Food can be very inspiring.
  • “Jackie plucked the juicy red cherry from Tom’s hungry lips just as his sharp and vicious teeth came crashing together. “Wow!” thought Jackie. “What would that deliciously beautiful mouth feel like on my insatiably ravenous…” phew, anyhow;

  • Write it even if it sucks, you can always fix it later- A lot has been written confirming the value of the shitty first draft. Some have even written entire books on this theory. Not that I, have ever written a shitty first draft…honest.
  • Self-dialogue - Try it. Start a spontaneous conversation with, yours truly. Go ahead, I promise not to make fun of you. You are sitting in one of New York’s trendy nightclubs when, who walks in? You guessed it. You! Now walk on over to you and pick yourself up-make sure you have some way of recording what happens. Do you try out the latest cheesy pick-up line on yourself? Did you slap yourself and tell you, to go to hell? Did you end up in bed with, well, yourself and live happily ever after?
  • With any luck one of these exercises will help cure your writer’s block and hopefully my own.

Heartworms And Your Pit Bull Terrier: Dog Health Advice

Filed under: Pet + Animal Products @ 10:55 am

One of the most devastating parasites which may threaten your
Pit Bull is the heartworm. These nasty creatures can linger in
your pet for years before dealing a death blow to your Pit Bull.
Heartworms are treatable, but it is best to use a protective
stance rather than wait for infection to occur.

This disease is not spread from pet to pet via contact, but by
another nasty creature we all know as the mosquito. The mosquito
is a necessary link in the transfer of the disease. The number
of dogs infected with heartworms always increases during the
height of mosquito season. Long mosquito seasons will increase
    the rate of infections rapidly.

Once heartworms are transmitted by the mosquito into the dog’s
blood stream, they travel through the blood into the heart and
the major pulmonary blood vessels. The heartworms are in the
immature stage and are called microfilaria.

Upon arriving in the heart, the microfilaria will set up
residence and grow into adult heartworms. These fully grown
parasites cause heart blockage and damage to surrounding tissues
by clogging the heart and the major blood vessels leading from
the heart. Adult heartworms will also interfere with the valve
    action within the heart.

When the heart and main blood vessels get clogged, the blood
flow to other critical organs is reduced, which can cause
problems for the liver, kidneys and lungs, resulting in organ
failure. Most dogs which are infected with heartworms will not
show any outward signs of disease for as long as up to two
years. Sadly, by the time the disease starts to show signs in
the dog, it is in the advanced stage. These signs depend on
several factors, such as the number of adult worms and
microfilariae present, as well as their location. The length of
time the infection has been present, and the amount of damage
already done to the heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys are all
    essential factors.

    Signs of Heartworm Infestation

The most obvious outward signs of heartworms are: Unexplained
    weight loss.

A dry almost constant cough with labored breathing.

    Shortness of breath.

    Sudden weakness.

A sudden show of nervousness or listlessness, accompanied by a
loss of stamina. The signs of heartworms are most noticeable
after the dog has been engaged in exercise or play. Some dogs
with heartworms may even faint or drop dead suddenly right after
engaging in rigorous play or exercise.

Treatment for heartworms is available but it is costly and in
some cases may prove fatal to the dog itself. To prevent this
horrible disease in your Pit Bull, be sure to keep your dog’s
regular vet appointments. Heartworms can be prevented easily by
administering heartworm medication to your pet each month.

As always, talk to your vet if you have any concerns that your
dog may have heartworms, and never try to treat the disease on
your own. Always consult a properly qualified professional
before starting any type of treatments on your dog.

What Alfa do you drive (Alfa Romeos)

I personally drive an alfa romeo gtv, the car I dreamed about as a kid. Almost a mini ferrari if you will. I brought my used alfa romeo gtv for about 3 grand and I have never regretted it. I looked at about 10 before I settled on a single alfa romeo, I looked at alfa tsparks for sale, alfa 157s,156s,147s and even an brand new alfa 8c. The gtv was the best mixture of passion, price and speed though - the car is fast - 3.0 petrol fast. I have never regretted buying my alfa romeo, so neither should you - go buy an alfa romeo today or risk loosing your youth in a puff of grey smoke! - Its all about the alfa (alfa romeos.)

    Buy DVD Recorders

Filed under: Great Product Tips @ 4:27 am

DVDs are one of the most popular storage media today. Their capacity to store large amounts of data, as well as their reliability as compared to floppy disks, hard drives or tapes, has made them a favorite with everybody. A DVD recorder is a device that enables the recording of data onto a DVD. DVD recorders read data from other media such as computers, CDs, tapes, floppy disks, hard disks, TVs or any other device, and write the data digitally onto the DVD. DVD recorders are also good CD/DVD players, with playback and recording features.

There are many different kinds of DVD recorders available today: DVD recorder-VCR combo, DVD recorder-hard drive combo or standalone DVD recorders. There are also different DVD recording formats: DVD-R (write-once), DVD- RW (re-writable format of DVD-R), DVD+R (write once), DVD+RW (re-writable format of DVD+R) and DVD-RAM (re-writable with random access capability). Most DVD recorders are compatible with only a few of these formats, but there are a few brands that can work for all these formats. DVD recorders also differ on the basis of the time modes: 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 2, 3, 3 and 4 hour modes. The shorter the mode, the better is the quality of the recording.

There are many brands of DVD recorders in the market today. The main aspects to be considered while buying a DVD recorder are your budget, specific needs (such as recording onto a DVD or a hard drive), the brand, and the kind of audio/video connections available. Prices of top DVD recorders range from $100 to $1,000 or more, depending on the brand, model, capacity and options available. Some cable and satellite providers offer DVR services for free or for a small fee on a monthly rental basis. Prices of straight DVD recorders start at $400 or $500 and may go up to $2,000. Other aspects to be considered are maximum recording time, electronic program guide, component-video input, type of digital audio output, ease of operation, compression capabilities, and others. Choosing To Apply For A 0% Intro Rate Credit Card

Filed under: Finance Programs @ 11:45 pm

If you’re of age and with a permanent source of income, maybe
it’s time to own a credit card. If you haven’t ever considered
owning a credit card, maybe it’s time to do so. There are a lot
of good things that could be made possible simply by owning a
    credit card.

First, credit cards could be of utmost use in times of emergency
and unplanned events. If your car breaks down and you don’t have
cash with you, the words “credit card” may never sound more
beautiful to anyone’s ears than yours. If you find yourself
accidentally breaking an expensive crystal vase in the mall and
once again you don’t have enough cash with you, guess what alone
could help you if there’s no one to lend you some money? Your
    credit card of course!

And those are just necessity-related-advantages of credit cards,
mind you. We haven’t yet gotten to the best part of credit cards
yet and that’s how it allows us to indulge and pamper ourselves
from time to time. Say, you just got out of a very bad
relationship and you want to relax and enjoy yourself for a
while after feeling down for so long. If you don’t have enough
money to make your plan to self-indulge possible, your credit
card could always come to the rescue!

And of course there’s the fact that credit cards let you shop
for the more expensive things that you used to allow yourself to
drool about only and never own! Well, guess what again? Owning a
credit card would allow you not just to drool but own those
    things as well!

Convinced then? Good, because it’s now time to pick what type of
credit card you should apply for.

There are just two main types of credit cards - the type that
offers reward and the type that doesn’t. We’ll be picking one
from the latter category to discuss and this type of credit card
is called the 0% intro rate credit card. Sounds nice so far,
    right?

Well, a 0% intro rate credit card, as we mentioned, is a
non-reward type of credit card so that means you don’t get to
earn reward points each time you utilize your credit card. On
the other hand, you do get to enjoy 0% interest rate for all
your purchases. That’s right - all your purchases shan’t be
    charged with any interest whatsoever!

What’s the catch? Well, the 0% interest rate isn’t a forever
thing and once the time limit expires, you go back to the normal
rates. The good news: if you have something expensive that you
need to buy NOW then the 0% intro rate credit card is the
    optimum choice for you!

JV Giveaways…List Building At Warp Speed.

I just recently discovered the fastest and easiest way to build a huge, responsive, opt in email list. I had heard of JV Giveaways before and had seen them advertised. I avoided them because I always assumed that the gifts would be old oversold marketing products of little value.

I finally took the time to look one over, at a friends insistence, and could not believe the quality products that were being given away. The truth of the matter is that there are some big name marketers that participate in these JV giveaways and offer free products that they were previously selling for upwards of $97.

Software, graphics, videos, and ebooks, a lot of which come with resell rights or even master resell rights. You can build an arsenal of marketing products for nothing by browsing through a few giveaways. Although, the hidden secret is to participate as a JV partner and give away your own product.

You set up a landing page, a one time offer, and maybe even a viral product to giveaway and start promoting the giveaway. Every one is promoting the same website, some with huge lists already, which drives tons of traffic to the site. Every one gets to leverage the promotional power of all members. It’s a win, win situation for everybody.

The prospects enter their information on your landing page to collect their free gift. This puts them into your marketing funnel…ie auto responder. You then monetize your efforts further by sending them to a one time offer. The end result is that you get paid to build a huge list in record time by giving away a product that can be loaded with your affiliate links or links to your own websites.

This is an incredibly easy way to build a large list fast. Participate in multiple giveaways at the same time and really put your list building into overdrive. I have assembled a list of on going and up coming JV giveaways Here if your interested.
