Business management

Filed under: Business Opportunities @ 8:06 pm

Business has always been structured in a top down hierarchy much like the military. The general stood at the top and consulted with very few before making decisions on what to do and how to do it. Then they issue the marching orders and they are passed down the change of command until they are finally executed. This type of business management may have worked well in the past. And this type of business management may work well still in limited circumstances, like in the a crisis or when you have an exceptionally talented person at the top. But in today’s world this old school style of business management definitely has its drawbacks.

This type of business management is costing companies huge sums of money in lost opportunities of and lost productivity. With the modern technology that is available, this type of top-down business management is no longer necessary or even advisable. These days, everyone in the whole company can participate in the creative process of making the decisions that will steer the company. Upper management should no longer be the only source of ideas and input into important business decisions. Too much is lost and wasted with this type of business management in his old-fashioned talk down style of business management, too much power is concentrated in too few hands. The people at the top are operating with the outdated information and are cut off from what is really going on in their own companies and in their marketplaces. People all throughout the organization and in the field are more in touch with what is going on and should have more and more input into what a business does and how does it. The management of the business can and should be decentralized in order to tap into the knowledge and creativity of everyone in the company. A new, far more inclusive and holistic form of business management needs to be embraced.
