Diversifing: Ringtone Industry
As any website owner would know, being on the lookout for new products to diversify in is always at the top of a webmaster’s mind. And I think the most diversified industry is the download of ringtones. Many websites, whether they be sports, music, education or whatnot, offer their user’s an option to download ringtones.
In 2006, the ringtone industry was worth just a tad over $600 million! 2007 will be bigger no doubt, but unfortunately due to the iPhone, we will probably see the industry go in decline. The iPhone has literally killed the market as it doubles as an iPod.
Those website that now make a killing offering ringtone downloads, will need to diversify into other areas in order to stay alive. With every new technology, an existing product / market dries up.
